One of the most famous puppets, José is a jalapeño pepper on a stick who wears a small sombrero. José, who speaks with a thick Latino accent, is typically paired with a stick, and is often made fun of by Peanut, who uses jokes appealing to Latino stereotypes when Peanut doesn't understand, and gets made fun of his being on a stick. Although José was not Jeff Dunham's first puppet, he is the first puppet created by himself. Peanut claims José is Mexican, but he's from Florida and claims to be Cuban. He mispronounces "Jeff" as "Khhheff".
He and Peanut often argue, as Peanut likes to tease Jose. They are seemingly frenemies, as they can come up with funny ideas together, while still making fun of each other. Peanut claims that Jose "gets the better insults", even though Peanut does.
Jose is also known for being flirtatious, as he once said (in answer to the question, "why would a girl want to see you"), "Jose has the stick!"
After Minding the Monsters came out, people at his camp said he shouldn't do Josè anymore. Because of this, he didn't appear in the Comedy Central special Unhinged in Hollywood and the Netflix special Relative Disaster. But people would get upset if he wasn't in Jeff Dunham's show. So Jeff Dunham brought Josè back in the Netflix Special Beside Himself, and he's been in Jeff's act ever since.
