Peanut is a hyperactive, annoying, kind of crazy, cute purple-skinned "woozle" with white fur covering most of his body, a tuft of green hair on the top of his head, and one sneaker on his left foot. Dunham explains in Arguing with Myself that Peanut is from a small Micronesian island, and that they met in Florida. Peanut's humor is not based on a particular motif or stereotype, as those of the other characters, and has been described as "the bad kid." He often makes fun of Dunham, and torments and mocks José Jalapeño on a Stick (nah, on a steeek!). Touching upon his unusual appearance and personality, he asks Dunham in Arguing with Myself, after Dunham denies ever having done drugs, "Then how the hell did you come up with me?" In Controlled Chaos, Jeff came up with two new puppets: "Little Jeff" (which Peanut named "Littleuglyassjeff") and Little Peanut (a small finger puppet form of Peanut). During the show Jeff claimed he came up with Peanut at the same time he came up with José. Peanut is allergic to nuts, dairy, fish, fire liquids, plastic furniture, textbooks, cat nip, executive oxygen, tissue, meat, fruit, bee stings, sugar, and dust. In Unhinged in Hollywood, it shows that coffee makes him extremely hyper. He is also known as "Batnut." According to Walter, Peanut is made from asbestos. In a YouTube video, Jeff reveals that Peanut's hair is made of ostrich feathers dyed green. Jeff says the reason Peanut is purple is not because he copied Barney, as Peanut was created before Barney, but because he couldn't think of any famous characters that were purple, and purple is Jeff's favorite color. His catchphrase is "That's good-itty, that's good, that's GOOOOOD!!!!"

- It seems in The Jeff Dunham Show that Peanut has a son, from one of his ex-girlfriends.
- When he and Jeff appeared on Brazilian presenter Xuxa's TV show, he played with her and also won a kiss from her at the end of the show. Later she sang 'Our Song of Peace.'
- Peanut revealed that his mother had quadruplets: Eeeny, Meeny, Mine-y and Fred. When Jeff asked what happened to Mo, he responded: ''Oh, she didn't want NO MO.''
- Also, Peanut usually does the sound of a flying plane passing by meaning that the joke went over someone's head. "Hey Rob! NNNEWYM!"
- Peanut's first joke that got laughs was based on his one shoe. When Jeff asked if Peanut lost a shoe, he responded with: "No, I found one." Jeff tried to include the joke in each of his acts.
- To add to this joke, he "accidentally" loses grip on Peanut, throwing him across the stage.
- Peanut may have been raised in an abusive household as when Jeff gave Peanut an angry stare during Controlled Chaos Peanut began saying "daddy dont hit mommy"
